Personal and Family Preparedness

During a tornado, flood, or other emergency, you could be cut off from services or help for many days. It is important to have an emergency kit and a family emergency plan already established.

Create a Disaster Kit
Consider having these items in your kit:

  • Water- at least one gallon daily per person for 3-7 days
  • Non-perishable foods- at least enough for 3-7 days
  • Blankets/Pillows
  • Clothing
  • First Aid Kit
  • Toiletries
  • Flashlights
  • Battery operated radio
  • Batteries
  • Telephone
  • Cash
  • Keys
  • Important documents (insurance, medical records, bank account numbers, social security cards, etc.)
  • Toys/books/games
  • Supply of prescription medications
  • Specialty items- for babies and elderly
  • Pet care items (proper identification/immunization records, food, water, leash, etc)
